Wes Brown: Manchester United better off investing Erling Haaland fee elsewhere

According to The Express, former Manchester United star Wes Brown has some piece of advice for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer regarding his pursuit of Erling Haaland.

The Red Devils have been tracking the Norwegian ace who is setting the field alight at Borussia Dortmund. One of the best young strikers in world football, the 20-year-old is one of the top prospects in our hunt for a striker.

According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, Haaland will not come cheap. He revealed on Twitter that Dortmund expect at least €150m for the player’s services.

While Brown is himself an admirer of the player, he believes the club are better off spending the money in other areas of the pitch. While a striker is a priority, the Red Devils need more than one player to turn them into genuine title contenders.

“But what we have lacked on occasions is consistency and we need to get that into us. I would say he would be better making three signings or even better four.”

Brown believes the Red Devils are better off spending the money earmarked for Haaland to strengthen other positions instead. He believes it will strengthen the team better and will help bring out consistent results.

Brown believes signing a defender is the priority

Next year is our year

The ex-United star adds that the club’s priority should be to bring in a dependable partner for Harry Maguire. The skipper is the lone centre-back who is assured of his spot in the starting XI.

Brown believes next season will see United challenge for the title. However, he has called upon the squad to deliver the Europa League this season to keep the momentum going.

“I think next season is the one for Ole with regard to the title but the Europa League is massive for us now.”

We partly agree with Brown’s assessment that United’s issues are multi-pronged for one player to make a difference. However, we have seen in recent years with Virgil van Dijk and Ruben Dias to an extent that a solitary star could make a world of impact.

The onus is now on United’s new recruitment team to ensure Solskjaer has what he needs to compete.
