Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could face sack if he fails to lift silverware this season
Speaking to the Daily Mail (h/t The Sun), Teddy Sheringham believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be sacked at Manchester United if he does not lift a trophy this season.
The Norwegian has spent a successful two and a half years at United but has failed to pick up any silverware yet. However, it does not mean that he has not come close.
The 48-year-old guided the club to a UEFA Europa League final last year while the club reached the semi-final of the competition in the 2019/20 season. The Old Trafford outfit were also eliminated in the semi-final of the FA Cup in the same season. The final bit has eluded Solskjaer until now, but he has signed title-winning players this summer.
The Red Devils brought in the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane, who have 9 Champions League trophies, 1 European Championship, 1 World Cup, and several league titles between them. The club also brought in one of the best young prospects in the world in Jadon Sancho.
This has led Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham to believe that his former teammate could be sacked from the job if he fails to bring in silverware this season. He told the Daily Mail (h/t The Sun):
“Without a doubt, there is pressure on him this year to win something. If he doesn’t win something, he knows the writing is on the wall. They have made the big signings in Varane and Sancho. That would be enough but then Ronaldo becomes available, United acquire him and they need to see results now.
“Ole is still a young manager, and he is gaining experience while on the job…I think he is progressing, but he needs to take it to the next level.”
