Sweden head coach Janne Andersson gives injury update on Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof.

Sweden boss Janne Andersson gave an interview to discuss the current status of Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof.

Lindelof came off during the 71st minute of the Premier League game against Brentford which ended in a 2-1 victory. The Sweden captain seemed to have suffered an injury during the game as he went straight into the tunnel.

The 29-year-old has travelled to join his national team for duty but remains a doubt to participate in the fixtures.

Andersson spoke to Swedish publication Aftonbladet about the current situation of the United defender. He said:

“I have had contact with Lindelof. Hopefully, there won’t be any major problems, but I don’t dare say that for sure. I do not have the medical team’s assessment, tonight I will find out exactly how it is.”

Sweden will face Moldova in a friendly game on Thursday to commence their international break. The Swedes will play the Euro 2024 qualifier next against Belgium. His pivotal role in the Swedish set-up and his captaincy led to the expectation that he would play both games.

Both Andersson and United manager Erik ten Hag would be eagerly awaiting the final assessment report over Lindelof. The Red Devils are facing a major crisis in their defence and that is hampering their season with inconsistencies.

United currently have Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, and Sergio Reguilon on the injury list.

Fabrizio Romano stated that United are currently scouting numerous defenders with the hope of acquiring some in the 2024 transfer windows.

The Red Devils are currently 10th in the Premier League table after eight matches. Whereas, they have lost both of their Champions League Group A fixtures and are currently last in the table.

Ten Hag needs to fortify the defence in order to rectify the trajectory of the club going forward. The Red Devils would hope that their injured first-team players will recover by the time the current international break ends.
