Steve Bruce is keen on becoming the replacement to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United
According to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t The Express], Steve Bruce is eager on becoming the replacement to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.
The club is in turmoil after they sacked the Norwegian on Sunday morning. The performances across all competitions were dire, and a change was needed. Although there were no plans to deliver the sack before the Watford game, the 4-1 score-line certainly got to the board.
Nevertheless, it could be the right decision in the long run. However, they must now nail their next appointment as they have a squad ready to win trophies. Brendan Rodgers and Erik Ten Hag are brilliant tactical managers but are contracted to Leicester City and Ajax.
Mauricio Pochettino, like the duo, is committed to PSG but is a frontrunner for the job. Zinedine Zidane is enjoying time off management and is unlikely to throw himself into a league he knows nothing about, especially mid-season.
However, one man that is apparently ready to take the job is Steve Bruce. The former United defender was sacked by Newcastle United last month after the Saudi-led consortium took over the club.
Bruce is thought to be confident that he can stabilise the club. The players were in tears in the dressing room after Solskjaer was sacked, and they are said to be ‘mentally broke.’

The English manager has a good track record of stabilising Birmingham City, Aston Villa, Hull City, Sheffield Wednesday, and Sunderland. However, he might not be in the running given that this would be a clear step up for him, and he does not have the experience of handling a squad with such marquee names.
Thus, while he may have ties to the club, Michael Carrick is likely to remain the caretaker until an interim boss or a permanent decision is made over the next manager at Old Trafford.
