Sheffield United keen to loan Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo

Marcos Rojo is an outcast at Manchester United. The Argentine international has not made a single appearance for United this season and was omitted from our Champions League squad.

Despite being a part of the Premier League squad, he is well down the pecking order. The fact that his sole appearance came in the Premier League 2 is a testament to his standing at the club.

One man’s trash could be another man’s treasure. According to The Athletic that could prove to be the case with Rojo.

According to the report, Sheffield United are set to target Rojo on a loan in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Blades have struggled this season and are currently rock bottom of the Premier League. They have lost eight of their opening nine games, conceding 15 goals.

They have failed to adjust to the absence of Jack O’Connell and can do with some tightening up at the back. Rojo does not appear to have a future at United and could benefit from a move to Bramall Lane.

Rojo’s contract at United runs until June 2021. United however do have an option to extend the contract by another year.

With Sheffield keen, it could be our chance to sell the player. United will do well to include a mandatory clause for the Blades to buy the player at the end of his loan spell.

Even if that is not possible, having the player start regularly at Sheffield could act as an audition for prospective buyers.

Rojo is a player United are keen to rid of in January. Hopefully, Sheffield’s need will ensure we get a decent price for the 29-year-old.

With the Copa America set to be held next summer, Rojo needs to play regularly. Doing so will help his cause for making the Argentina squad for the tournament.
