Scotland manager believes Scott Mctominay should get more playing time at Manchester United

According to Manchester Evening News, Scotland manager believes that Scott McTominay deserves a chance at Manchester United, following his remarkable late brace against Brentford.

United put an end to their losing streak in a dramatic fashion, triumphing 2-1 over the Bees after falling behind. Scott McTominay, who came in as a substitute in the 87th minute, managed to score twice in extra time, crafting an incredible comeback at Old Trafford.

This game was a crucial victory for us, especially after two consecutive home defeats. Carver predicts that the Scotland international will garner strong support from fans to secure regular playing time.

He said:

“I’ll be honest, I’m surprised he hasn’t been in the Manchester United team. But I don’t manage that team. I’m looking from the outside.

“It shows you the type of character Scott is. He could have easily thrown his toys out of the pram, but he has knuckled down, worked extremely hard and has waited for his opportunity. He came into the game at the weekend and you could see the delight on his face when he scored those goals. I was delighted for him.”

During the previous season, McTominay appeared in 39 matches for United, accumulating a total of 1,687 minutes, from 16 starts. He primarily featured as the deepest midfielder at the start of the season, but gradually made way for Casemiro, who was signed in late August.

However, as the season progressed, Ten Hag made a tactical switch, placing Bruno Fernandes to the right in a 4-2-3-1 formation and utilizing McTominay as a No. 10 in the closing moments of matches.

McTominay has been a significant contributor to Scotland’s qualification campaign, scoring six goals. Only Romelu Lukaku, with eight goals for Belgium, has more. This year, Erik ten Hag has granted more playing time to players like Mason Mount and Casemiro at United than the 26-year-old.

McTominay’s incredible comeback goals against Brentford are likely to serve as a catalyst in his journey towards becoming a regular starter for the team.

He has already demonstrated his ability to play an offensive role, both for his club and his country. It’s possible that he may not maintain his Scotland form throughout an entire season, given the talent at United’s disposal, which could pose a challenge.
