Sao Paulo ‘demanding’ sell-on clause instalment from Manchester United for Antony after Ajax transfer

Manchester United have been asked by Sao Paulo to pay the instalment owed for Antony after his transfer from Ajax, according to journalist Jorge Nicola via Sport Witness (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Brazilian outfit had included a sell-on clause when they sold the 22-year-old to the Amsterdam-based in 2020. And in the recent transfer window, the forward made his move to the Old Trafford side for £85.1 million.

As part of the previous agreement, Sao Paulo are owed a fee. And the Brazilian outfit are demanding the Red Devils pay them £15 million in the ‘next couple of weeks’, by the start of October.

United are apparently paying Ajax in instalments for Antony. However, Sao Paulo are getting restless and want the Old Trafford side to shell out what they are owed soon.

Erik ten Hag was reunited with a couple of his former stars in Manchester. Lisandro Martinez was the first to arrive from the Eredivisie champions. And the Brazilian forward arrived from Ajax a few days before the transfer deadline.

Antony had a blistering start to his United career. The Brazilian started on his debut against Arsenal. The 22-year-old opened the scoring against the Gunner in the 35th minute. The Red Devils ended up winning 3-1.

Arsenal were on a perfect run in the 2022/23 season before facing United at Old Trafford. The Manchester-based club were the first team to take points away from Mikel Arteta’s side.

Antony has subsequently started against Real Sociedad and Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League as well. The Brazilian still seems to be finding his feet in Manchester.

The international break has brought a halt to proceedings for club football. United are set to return to action on 2 October against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Hopefully, Antony is able to put his stamp on the derby.
