Reading in talks with Manchester United youngster Charlie Savage over permanent transfer
Manchester United youngster Charlie Savage is in talks with Reading over a permanent switch in the ongoing transfer window, according to The Sun.
The League One outfit have held discussions with the Welsh national regarding acquiring his services this summer. However, the midfielder has a host of other teams interested in him as well.
In the third tier of English football, Portsmouth also have the 20-year-old on their radar. Championship outfits Cardiff and Rotherham United are also keeping tabs on the Old Trafford side’s academy graduate.
Reading were relegated to League One after finishing third-bottom in the Championship in the 2022/23 term. Now, the Royals have appointed a new manager in Ruben Selles. In the previous campaign, the Spanish manager was in Southampton’s dugout for some time.
Savage has made his way through the youth ranks at Man United. The Welsh national has featured just once for the Red Devils’ senior team so far, coming on as a substitute in the final minutes of our Champions League group stage draw at home to BSC Young Boys in December 2021.
In January 2023, the 20-year-old joined Forest Green Rovers on loan. The midfielder impressed at the Gloucestershire-based club, making 15 appearances in League One for them. Although, the Green Devils did get related.
Savage caught a lot of people’s attention with his displays during last summer’s pre-season tour. Along with Zidane Iqbal, the Welsh national showcased his potential.
However, the Iraq international left the club recently and joined FC Utrecht. Now, it looks like another one of our academy talents is set to depart the club.

It feels like Erik ten Hag wants Savage to develop elsewhere as well. It remains to be seen whether the 20-year-old will be able to fulfil his potential wherever he ends up next.
