Phil Neville Yet To Hear From van Gaal: Here’s Why He Won’t

The Netherlands boss is currently with the national side in Portugal, for a pre-World Cup training camp and is totally focused on giving the ‘Oranje Army’ something to celebrate.

‘Class of 92’ member Phil Neville is yet to receive any contact from the incoming Manchester United manager, but he told Sky Sports he is hoping to hear about his role over the next couple of weeks.

The new boss has already named Neville’s former teammate and club legend Ryan Giggs as his assistant manager for next season.

He has also named goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek and Marcel Bout, who specialises in opposition analysis. The three have worked together before, at Bayern Munich.

Although United fans and those involved with Manchester United want to see as many of ‘Fergie’s Fledglings’ as possible in the backroom staff, I think Giggs will be the only one.

With so much riding on this first season, I can’t see van Gaal bringing too many new faces on board. Giggs is useful man to have, well respected, knows the players and the club inside-out.

The big position left is first-team coach, the position that Neville has been fulfilling under David Moyes and Ryan Giggs. But I think this slot with be filled by another of van Gaal’s men.

Perhaps he will install his current assistant coach with the Netherlands, former Barcelona striker Patrick Kluivert or Ajax legend Danny Blind.

Only time will tell.
