PFA hopes to intervene in Manchester United bust up between Erik ten Hag and Jadon Sancho

The Times (h/t Mirror) reports that the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) is hoping to resolve the feud between Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag and United forward Jadon Sancho.

The publicised despute between the United boss and the 23-year-old forward started after Sancho’s public retaliation to Ten Hag’s comment.

As a consequence of his disobedience, they have banned Sancho from utilising the first-team facilities, including access to the team dining area.

Ten Hag excluded Sancho from United’s matchday squad against Arsenal in their 3-1 away defeat at Emirates earlier this season.

The Dutchman revealed the Englishman’s poor training performance as the reason for the exclusion after the match. Sancho did not take kindly to the United boss’s comment and immediately retaliated through a since-deleted social media post.

The England international asserted that he conducted himself well in training and accused others of using him as a scapegoat.

Daily Mail reported that Ten Hag acted without permission to go public with Sancho’s mental health problems. We do not know the level of role the Dutchman’s action played in sullying his relationship with the young forward.

The Telegraph reported that Sancho has felt he is a victim of double standards at the hands of Ten Hag. The forward has maintained that he will not apologise.

Ten Hag is adamant that Sancho has no way back until he gets the apology as the situation reached an impasse. The PFA might try to do everything in their power but the situation seems irredeemable as things stand.

United signed Sancho from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund for £72 in the 2021 summer transfer window. The Englishman has failed to live up to the potential he showed in Germany, contributing to 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 appearances for the German club.

The 23-year-old has only 12 goals and six assists from 82 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions since arriving at Old Trafford. We do not know which party is more at fault as things are only escalating for the worse.

Sancho may have some genuine grievance against his manager but his current actions are unbecoming of a professional player. While Ten Hag’s current stance is understandable as he needs to demonstrate his unchallenged command, questions will rightfully arise about the Dutchman’s man-management skills, just as they did about his decision to go public with mental health issues without permission.
