Pep Guardiola admits City had no answer to this Manchester United tactic
It as a frustrating night for Pep Guardiola as Manchester City’s 21-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of Manchester United.
The Catalan could only watch on as a hungry Red Devils side made easy work of his title favourites. Despite holding an 11-point gap on us in the league, United was clearly the superior side last night.
According to Daily Star, Guardiola admitted after the game that the Cityzens could not cope with United’s high press and fast counter-attack.
An early goal from Bruno Fernandes set the tone for the night. Luke Shaw scored early on in the second half to ensure the Red Devils had an unassailable two-goal lead.
Guardiola is not very downcast with the reversal and believes his side can bounce back from the defeat. He attributed United’s pressing high up the pitch and speedy counter-attack as their biggest difficulty on the day.
“United make incredibly high pressing and they are so fast on the counter.”
Guardiola showed grace in defeat and admitted his side did not make the most of their opportunities. He congratulated the Red Devils on the win and is now keen to move onto the next game.
“We played good. Unfortunately we couldn’t be clinical up front, so we congratulate United.”
