“Priceless” – Man United legend questions club’s decision on failed January transfer

Transfer News: Manchester United might need to fork out nearly £295m to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

Paul Scholes questions Manchester United missing out on Erling Haaland in January

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes has questioned the club’s inability to sign Erling Braut Haaland in the January transfer window.

United were heavily linked with the then RB Salzburg youngster who was a machine in front of the goal. He ultimately moved to Borussia Dortmund, for whom he has continued to plunder in goals.

“Why did Manchester United not just pay whatever anybody wanted for him?”

Scholes believes United should have paid whatever it took to bring in the prolific Norwegian. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in conversation with his former protege but could not convince him.

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have been in prolific form since the restart. The duo has each scored 20 goals for United this season while Mason Greenwood has also chipped in with 15. Scholes believes the addition of Haaland would have significantly improved Solskjaer’s team.

“He’s quick as well, he’s got real pace. He’s a big lad, he’s a presence, and he scores goals – and that’s priceless.”

It is clear that Scholes is a fan of Haaland but we feel the club has benefitted from not signing the Norwegian.

Mason Greenwood has made 18 appearances for the club since the start of the year. It is debatable if he would have received the same game time had Haaland been available.

There is no doubt that Haaland is a truly special player. However, our forwards have coped well of late. For the first time in nearly a decade, the club has two players who have breached the 20-goal barrier in the same season.

United may or may not sign Haaland in the future. However, in Rashford, Martial, and Greenwood, we have three excellent young footballers. If they continue to flourish, Scholes will have no more reasons to complain.
