Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has weighed in on the current situation at Old Trafford, expressing his views on the challenges faced by manager Erik ten Hag amid mounting pressure.

Saha believes that while Ten Hag has performed well, there remains room for improvement. Following the recent 3-1 loss to Manchester City, the pressure on Erik ten Hag increased and he faces an uncertain future at the club, particularly after the minority investment from INEOS led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Keeping that in mind, Saha suggests that the club needs to ensure that the managerial staff, board, and players are all aligned with the club’s philosophy and long-term strategy.

Here is what he told Paddy Power via Manchester Evening News:

“Erik ten Hag has done a great job but there’s still some room for improvement. Nobody will be perfect, not even the big managers with pedigree, when the set up at a club isn’t right – it can be a struggle for a manger. But it’s not only down to Ten Hag, it’s a combination of him, the board and the players and that hasn’t been aligned.”

“Now Ineos is in charge, they need to find proper staff that are aligned with the manager and the philosophy of the club and the strategy they want to follow in two or three years. It’s not going to click just because it’s been announced – the proper work starts now. The board need to sit down with Ten Hag and understand his plan, the types of players he wants, who he wants to stay and leave. There’s a big gap tactically to other teams, especially Manchester City but it still took Man City a few years to get the best results.”

As Saha rightly points out, the work begins now. With new leadership, a new vision and possibly a new Sporting Director in place as well, it is important for Ten Hag to align himself with what the owners have in plan for the long term. Both parties have to engage with

Tactically speaking, there’s still a gap to cover. The likes of Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal and even Tottenham are ahead of United. While it takes time to reclaim our spot among Europe’s elite, there must be signs of improvement, and until now, there hasn’t been enough.

While Ten Hag may face pressure to deliver results, success will ultimately hinge on the alignment of all aspects of the club, from management to players, and the implementation of a clear and coherent strategy for the future.
