Jack Butland excited to represent Manchester United after loan move from Crystal Palace

Manchester United have officially signed Jack Butland on loan from Crystal Palace in the ongoing transfer window for the rest of the campaign. The 29-year-old is excited about getting a chance to represent the Red Devils.

The England international did not feature for the Eagles in the 2022/23 campaign after sustaining a fractured finger during pre-season. But the shot-stopper has recovered now.

Speaking to media via Manchester Evening News, Butland expressed his elation at having made a move to the Old Trafford side. The goalkeeper is eager to get started at the club.

“This is an amazing club and one that I am now proud to represent. I’m really looking forward to working with an unbelievable goalkeeping group, supporting each other every day to create the best training and playing environment for the team.”

The 29-year-old started his professional career at Birmingham City. After impressing in the Championship, Stoke City got the shot-stopper’s signature in 2013.

With the Potters, Butland enjoyed a fruitful spell initially. It took the English national a bit of time to get into the Staffordshire-based club’s starting lineup. However, once he did, the goalkeeper impressed many.

The 29-year-old was also a regular member of various England squads and went to Russia with the Three Lions during the 2018 World Cup. However, since then, the shot-stopper has seen his career stagnate a bit.

At Palace, Butland has not been able to make a place for himself in between the sticks. Vicente Guaita has been the number one at the Selhurst Park side for a few years now.

At United, David de Gea is one of the first names on the team sheet. The 32-year-old has been in fine form for the Red Devils since last season. However, with Martin Dubravka’s loan move being cut short, Tom Heaton was the one backing up the Spaniard.

Therefore, Butland will evidently provide much-needed depth in the Old Trafford side’s goalkeeping department. But it remains to be seen how many games the 29-year-old is afforded by Erik ten Hag this season.
