Manchester United now ready to offload Czech shot-stopper Matej Kovar amid interest from various clubs

According to The Sun, Manchester United are prepared to sell young goalkeeper Matej Kovar in the current transfer window amid interest from various top clubs.

Kovar, who progressed through the ranks at the club, could likely depart from Old Trafford this summer.

The Czech star, who joined the Red Devils from 1. FC Slovacko in the winter of 2018, progressed through their youth setup and was eventually promoted to the first team last summer. However, he was subsequently loaned out to Sparta Prague.

During the 2022-23 season, Kovar played in 32 matches and managed to keep 11 clean sheets during his loan spell at Sparta Prague.

Despite his impressive performances, the 23-year-old is not a regular player in Erik ten Hag’s plans at United. The club has already secured the signing of Andre Onana as a replacement for David de Gea.

Hence, it’s difficult for Kovar to feature more often in the starting XI next season. It is quite natural for the club to look for options, as they are keen to offload the player.

Both Red Star Belgrade and Hull City are prepared to make an offer for Kovar’s services. Red Star are keen on a permanent move, while Hull City are open to the possibility of a loan deal as well.

The final decision will depend on the player’s preference, whether he wants to leave permanently or on loan.

Red Star Belgrade, also known as Crvena Zvezda, have undergone changes in their goalkeeping department this summer. They have recently signed Omri Glazer from Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

While Kovar could provide strong competition for Glazer, it would be unexpected for Red Star Belgrade to sign another goalkeeper unless they decide to sell veteran Zoran Popovic.

Meanwhile, Hull City are also keeping an eye on the young United keeper since their No. 1 choice, Karl Darlow, could join Middlesbrough this summer.

Both clubs are exploring the chances of a move for the United keeper, and the Red Devils are expected to receive an offer from any of these clubs.

Kovar had the opportunity to feature in some pre-season matches for United’s first team, but it appears that will be the extent of his chances, as the club is prepared to approve his departure.

Considering his age, it appears to be a sensible decision to explore his departure while his market value is still favourable.

While it may be bittersweet to part ways with him, it is hoped that the club can secure a reasonable transfer fee for this talented player, which could then be reinvested to strengthen the first-team squad.

The talented shot-stopper possesses genuine talent, and while we would prefer to have him as backup for Onana, it would be fantastic to witness him thrive as a first-choice goalkeeper at another club.
