Gerard Pique Confirms Fabregas Is Leaving Barcelona: Why United Are Still In With A Chance

It seems that one of the best players the Premier League has seen in recent years is back on the market, and England’s big clubs are battling for his signature.

Spanish paper Marca reports that Cesc Fabregas is leaving the Camp Nou this summer and a return to England is on the cards but not to former club Arsenal.

His Barcelona teammate Gerard Pique let slip during Spain’s pre-match press conference that Fabregas was definitely leaving for a fee of £33 million, in a conversation with Vicente Del Bosque.

Although he did not reveal the destination, Premier League duo Manchester United and Chelsea are believed to be the two clubs in the lead for his signature.

This is not how Fabregas would have pictured the return to his boyhood club turning out, three years down the line and being forced out the door.

To make matter worse, Arsenal, the one club in England he wants to join have refused their option of a buy-back and say they don’t need him.

Now, in the past few days rumours have suggested that he would join Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea and replace recently departed club legend Frank Lampard.

However, the Express believe that Manchester United are still seen as a more appropriate option by Barcelona because they aren’t a threat in Europe next season.

Although Fabregas’ hand is being forced in this situation, the final decision is going to be his. Whichever club he chooses, it will certainly not please Arsenal fans.
