Feyenoord contacted by Manchester United for shot-stopper Justin Bijlow

Manchester United have made ‘contact’ with Eredivisie champions Feyenoord for their shot-stopper Justin Bijlow, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required).

At the moment, the Red Devils are without a number one goalkeeper. David de Gea’s contract with the Old Trafford side expired at the end of last month. However, further talks are planned with the Spaniard.

As things stand, a striker is United’s priority. Therefore, Financial Fair Play (FFP) could play a big role in determining who the Manchester-based club will pursue to be their first choice in between the sticks next season.

To that end, Bijlow is a name the Red Devils could consider getting a hold of in the ongoing transfer window. However, the Rotterdam-based club are reluctant to part ways with the 25-year-old.

The Holland international has been a key player for Feyenoord over the years. He was a mainstay in Arne Slot’s plans as the Eredivisie outfit lifted the league title only for the second time this century.

Unfortunately, Bijlow’s injury record is not encouraging. While he has been the number one at the Rotterdam-based club for some time now, fitness issues have hampered him year after year. Even last season, the shot-stopper missed a good chunk of the campaign due to a problem with his wrist.

At United, we also have Dean Henderson in our ranks for now. However, the English national is attracting interest from Nottingham Forest, where he spent the 2022/23 term on loan.

Apart from the 26-year-old, Tom Heaton is the only other senior goalkeeper in our ranks. However, with all due respect, the 37-year-old is not up to the Old Trafford side’s standards.

Therefore, if De Gea were to not sign with United, we would evidently need to add a new shot-stopper to the squad. However, Bijlow is inexperienced and still has a lot to prove. Therefore, will the Red Devils sign him? Only time will tell.
