Rio Saga Proves United Matter More Than England

You put your centre half in, your centre half out, your centre half in and you shake him all about, you do the Rio cokey and you turn around, that's what it's all about.

This seems to be the strategy adopted by Roy Hodgson over Rio-gate, the latest in the saga following the badly handled Terry situation.

Vidic Return The Reason United Defence Has Improved

''Manchester United have been poor defensively.'' This is a common quote that has been said amongst Football fans, pundits and all involved in Football across the globe as sadly it has been true.

Five clean sheets in the first four months of this season and eight in total so far speaks volumes as for a club of our stature and considering what we are competing for that is a horrendous statistic.

Expect United To Buy Goalie Despite Consective Clean Sheets

The back-line is one of the most important parts of any football team. Along with their goalkeeper, a defense’s job is to defend the goal and stop the opposition scoring.

United Grab Elusive Ticket To Last 16 Of Champions League

Are Luiz And Cahill Good Enough To Contain United’s Attack?

Chelsea have made a blistering start this season. What’s been more surprising than that has been the way that they have won back neutrals and pundits around the country who now love the brand of football that they are playing instead of being bored with the defensive-minded side that won an unforgettable European Cup and FA Cup double last season.

Evans Inspires United In Nervy Win Over Braga

SC Braga arrived at Old Trafford last night undefeated in their 5 previous European clashes with English clubs, so everybody knew an under-strength Manchester United were in for a tough test against their Portuguese Champions League rivals.

However I doubt anybody expected the Red Devils to be 2-0 down within 20 minutes!

Hernandez Stars In Braga Victory But United's Defensive Problems Continue

Remember the days when Manchester United used to be defensively sound, when you could rely on Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic at the back in front of Edwin Van der Sar. A mean defence which hardly gave away chances, let alone goals on a regular basis, weren’t those the good old days?

Rafael, United's 'Most Improved' Player Of The Year So Far

The player who carries the tag 'most improved' for United so far this year has to be our right back Rafael da Silva, but why is this the case?

His initial introduction into the United team followed a merry go round of Wes Brown, John O'Shea and Chris Smalling playing that role. Phil Jones has provided some competition there too. All tall, all good headers of the ball and all strong defenders.

So the word on the street is that Sir Alex Ferguson is going to drop Patrice Evra this weekend for Manchester United’s game against Wigan Athletic this weekend handing Alexander Buttner his full first-team debut.

Should this be the perfect setting for Buttner to be thrown in at left-back at the Frenchman’s expense? The simple answer to that question is a resounding YES!
