Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti interested in Manchester United star Diogo Dalot
According to The Daily Star, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti remains interested in landing Manchester United star Diogo Dalot this summer.
The 22-year-old was one of Jose Mourinho’s final signings as Red Devils boss. Injuries and a lack of consistency have been a major cause for his lack of success at Old Trafford. A reasonably successful loan spell at AC Milan last season once again brought his abilities to the fore, even landing him a late call up to the Portuguese squad for the Euros.
Ancelotti was interested in Dalot during his time at Everton and appears to be keen on taking him to the Bernabeu this summer.
Real ace Raphael Varane looks to be on his way out and may join United. According to the report, Dalot could be used in a swap deal that would see the Frenchman make his way to Old Trafford. This could help lower Real’s asking price for Varane, much to United’s joy.
Ancelotti will however face competition from Italian giants AC Milan, who are keen on making his San Siro loan move permanent. While his spell in Italy may not have been eye-catching, he appears to have made enough impact on the Rossoneri management.
A lack of opportunity?
Dalot’s opportunities at United are debatable at the moment. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is clearly the first-choice right-back and United are also keeping tabs on Kieran Trippier. Failing to bring in the English international could yet see Dalot get a chance at United. With Axel Tuanzebe also set to leave on loan, there is a place for Dalot should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer choose to see so.
Capable of playing on either flank, Dalot’s versatility is an added bonus. With Luke Shaw and Alex Telles available on the left, his chances for game time are scant in that position. It can perhaps be argued that Real’s rebuild could hand Dalot a better platform to exhibit his prowess.
