Brazil boss Fernando Diniz confirms that Manchester United star Casemiro asked to be taken off vs Venezuela due to an injury

Brazil star Casemiro is a key player for Manchester United and the news of his injury while on international duty will certainly send a cold breeze down the spine of the Red Devils faithful.

The veteran star was a key part of Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League winning outfit on numerous occasions and occupies a similarly important role in Erik ten Hag’s plans at Old Trafford.

At 31, the midfielder is not getting any younger and will need his playing time to be managed. Given our poor start to the season, the last thing United need is Casemiro to spend time on the sidelines.

The concern comes after Casemiro was taken off against Venezuela after picking up a knock. The FIFA World Cup qualifier against Uruguay is around the corner and it remains to be seen if the Manchester United star will make the cut.

Speaking after the game, Fernando Diniz confirmed (h/t The Metro), that the midfielder took a blow to the ankle and had asked to come off himself. Hopefully, it is more of a precaution rather than anything serious.

With games coming thick and fast, the last thing United need is for more players to be added to the injury list. Several stars have endured significant spells out, more or less impacting our ability to make a quick start to the season.

Even if the injury is minor, we hope Brazil do not risk using Casemiro against Uruguay. The least we can hope is that the midfielder returns to Manchester having caught a breather. If not, it could give Scott McTominay another chance to make an impression.

The injuries at Old Trafford have become so acute that the United football director John Murtough confirmed that the club are investigating the patterns and hopes to come up with a solution. It certainly is the need of the hour.
