Transfer News: Louis van Gaal failed to bring Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller to Manchester United in 2015 as his wife blocked the move
According to transfer news from BILD journalist Christian Falk (h/t The Sun), Louis van Gaal failed to bring Bayern Munich ace Thomas Muller to Manchester United in 2015 as his wife blocked the move.
The German superstar is still playing at the top of his game, despite turning 32 in September. He has been a Bayern faithful for the longest time and helped them to UCL glory in 2013 and 2020. However, the latter might not have happened had he joined Man United in 2015.
Then the United manager Louis van Gaal was interested in recruiting the playmaker’s services. He had already signed Bastian Schweinsteiger, and adding Muller would have been a huge boost.
The Dutch manager recently revealed the incident to BILD journalist Christian Falk. Van Gaal explained to the reporter (h/t The Sun):
“I tried to bring Muller to Manchester both in the 2014/2015 season and in the 2015/2016 season. In 2015 it would have been possible if his wife had been a little more open to a transfer abroad.
“At least that was the reason Thomas gave my assistant Marcel Bout, who had had all the conversations with him, why the transfer had been rejected.”
