Ashley Young makes a sly remark on Twitter after Manchester United loanee Jesse Lingard impresses on West Ham debut
Ashley Young and Jesse Lingard spent a number of years together at Manchester United.
While the former is currently impressing at Inter, the latter recently joined West Ham United on loan in the winter transfer window.
Lingard made his Hammers debut against Aston Villa and immediately showcased his abilities. The 28-year-old scored twice in a 3-1 win that got David Moyes’ side back to winning ways.
Following the performance, Young took to Twitter to make what appears to be a small dig at United.
Both Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho held a high opinion of Lingard. The same cannot be said of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who has failed to get the best out of the Englishman.
With him all but frozen out of the first-team picture, Lingard had little choice but to leave the club in January. It is fair to say it is paying off already.
As someone who has shared the pitch with Lingard, Young will be aware of his former teammate’s abilities. The insinuation that the 28-year-old is a capable player when played is hinted in his tweet.

Lingard is no doubt a good player who just needed a change of scenery.
West Ham should provide with the stage he needs to audition for a role in England’s Euro 2021 squad. He last represented the Three Lions in 2019. He will do his cause no harm if he continues to perform in the same vein.
