Strootman Would Bring Steel To United's Midfield

I'm sure I’m not alone in thinking that Manchester United could do with a bit of 'steel' in the current midfield and if it was up to me, that steel would come in the form of young Dutchman Kevin Strootman from PSV Eindhoven.

Strootman first came to my attention back in the summer of 2010 when ex-Utd assistant manager Steve McClaren was trying to sign the 22 year old midfielder for Eredivise champions FC Twente from Sparta Rotterdam.

The deal collapsed and a year later Strootman moved to Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven for a figure of around  €8m. He soon became a permanent fixture in the team and by that time had also broken into the Dutch National team squad where he is now a regular in midfield.

I have become quite a fan of the young midfielder and have watched him many times over the last 2 seasons and what impresses me more than most about him is his attitude. Whilst he's only 22 he shows a great maturity and determination and is seen by many as the driving force behind the PSV team, if they are losing then he is often the first player to roll his sleeves up and try to turn it around when most others his age would go hiding.

If you know me then you'll also be aware of my immense love for ex-United legend Roy Keane so not surprisingly no current player in the world compares to Keano in my eyes but i do see familiar qualities in Strootman. He goes about his business quietly without fuss but is a very tough cookie and will not be bullied at all, if he needs to leave his mark on somebody then he is quite capable of doing just that!

Whilst the current United midfield is very talented and are all very comfortable on the ball i think its quite obvious that we lack someone who can put a tackle in, carry the ball through midfield and more importantly someone who can help dominate the opposition's midfield.

Strootman has the ability to do all of these and at only 22, he is only going to get better so at the rumoured figure of between £12-15m i think he would be a fantastic acquisition to our team.

He has said that he is happy at PSV at this moment in time but has also stated his desire to play for a top European team in the future and even his ex-national team manager Bert van Marwijk has publically said that he can see the youngster plying his trade for a top European team soon enough.

I for one, hope that the team is Manchester United.
